‘Autumn Bouquet’
13 x 12 in (oval)
Woodburned on live edge Basswood cookie, and coloured markers.
Autumn bouquet is a compilation of the special gifts of nature during the fall. The funghi growing in the forest, rain hydrating the soil, the leaves brightening up the gray skies, the owls protecting their land, and the butterflies fluttering around observing it all.
The focus on this was getting incredibly detailed and layering the components in a way where they compliment one another through contrast and texture. The grain and knots in the wood were used as part of the design, creating a tree hollow and a wing of a butterfly.

‘wildlife chilling beach’
13 x 8.5 in (33 cm x 22 cm)
Woodburned on live edge english walnut, Sealed with natural UV
protection oil.
On November 15, 2021 there were extreme winds and rough seas in Vancouver, Canada. A 3.5 million pound weighing barge 'barged' itself onto English bay. It quickly became a tourist attraction, and a problem for our city to solve. Inspired by a park in Vancouver called 'Dude Chilling Beach", somebody paid good money to get a sign in front of the barge calling it 'Barge Chiling Beach'. The land belongs to Musqueam and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations and is called i7iyelshn, which means "good underfoot" in hangaminam. The community had mixed feelings about the length of time the barge ended up 'chilling' on the beach, and thus I was inspired.
Our beloved barge, captured in the future when climate change takes
over and humans are no longer here. An animal utopia; a happy seal
wedged in perfectly, curious otters exploring, a whale party, a bald
eagle meeting and some man made pieces left behind.
